HARIETT offers 5 distinct types of training programs to employees. Click any of the items below to learn more.

1. Employee Career Advancement: Education, Training and Retraining Program

The Employee Career Advancement: Education, Training and Retraining Program offers current employees who are planning to change jobs within the hotel industry the ability to receive career planning, education, and training to learn new skills. This program is also available for employees seeking possibilities and avenues for promotion through the improvement and enhancement of their current skills.

Additionally, as part of this program, HARIETT operates U.S. Department of Labor registered apprenticeship programs designed to provide classroom and On-Job-Training ("OJT") to current employees looking to become a Building Maintenance Repairer, a Dinner Cook, or a Pastry Cook:

The Building Maintenance Repairer Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide classroom and on-the-job training to a person wishing to become a 1st class Journeyman in a signatory hotel's maintenance department.

Skills taught include basic electrical maintenance, basic welding, operation of hand and power tools, appliance repair, mechanical maintenance, motor controls, residential wiring, and plumbing maintenance.

The Dinner Cook and Pastry Cook Apprenticeship Programs are designed to provide classroom and on-the-job training to a person wishing to become a Dinner or Pastry Cook in a signatory hotel's kitchen department.

Skills taught include a variety of cooking methods, basic knife skills, kitchen supervisory skills, and food and beverage cost control.

Soon HARIETT will also begin offering interested employees the ability to enroll in Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs for the Building Maintenance Repairer, Pastry Cook, and Dinner Cook Apprenticeship Programs. More information will be added as soon as it is available.

2. UNITE HERE! Local 5 Member Enrichment Program

The UNITE HERE! Local 5 Member Enrichment Program consists of education and training options identified by UNITE HERE! Local 5 that are designed to improve the lives of its members. Programs can include citizenship classes, caregiver training programs, referrals to adult basic education, ESL programs, and more.

3. Member Identified Training Needs Program

The Member Identified Training Needs Program offers employees within specific departments the ability to identify, request, and receive training they feel is necessary to perform their duties more efficiently, safer, and/or better.

4. Employer Identified Talent Development Training Needs Program

The Employer Identified Talent Development Training Needs Program involves specific education and training identified by the employer for employees who are considered necessary to the employer to ensure a workplace/destination that is competitive, attractive, and safe.

5. Layoff Aversion & Transition Program

The Layoff Aversion & Transition Program is designed to provide members who have been laid off or partially unemployed from the signatory hotels with job training and placement assistance either within the same employer or with another signatory employer.

In cases where training and placement are not viable within the signatory employers, HARIETT will assist members in receiving job training and employment services in partnership with the State and Counties. HARIETT may enter into joint funding opportunities in these instances.
